How do I organise a baptism?

  • Choose godparents. Traditionally a boy will have two godfathers and one godmother, a girl one godfather and two godmothers, but there is no rule about this. Godparents must themselves have been baptised, and must be able to make the baptismal promises in good faith.
  • Contact the Parish Administrator here. A member of the clergy will visit you in your home and fill in a simple application form, talking through with you the service itself and the ways in which children can grow in their faith after baptism.
  • Adults and older children who wish to be baptised will be invited to take part in a preparation course, which will give a chance to look at the basic Christian story and lifestyle, and help you ask and resolve your own questions about faith.
  • There is no fee for a baptism. The whole point of the rite is to show God’s free choice of us as his children out of sheer love: to put a pricetag on that would undermine the meaning of the ceremony. We always welcome donations but do not expect them.
